Meet Dr. Leonard

Robert E. Leonard II, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Retinal Associates of Oklahoma, serving patients in Oklahoma City.  He specializes in vitreo-retinal diseases.

Dr. Leonard completed his residency and fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. He served as Chief Resident at Bascom Palmer before joining Texas Retina Associates in 1998.  Dr. Leonard joined the Dean McGee Eye Institute in 2001 and has risen to the academic rank of Clinical Professor and Director of the vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship program.

Dr. Leonard has been involved in the pivotal anti-VEGF trials that changed the way we treat wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions.  He has been involved in over 30 clinical trials, written chapters in several textbooks and published numerous original articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Leonard’s interests include treatment of vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery which include macular hole surgery, retinal detachment repair, membrane peeling of macular puckers, treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusions.
